These shoes have more heel cushioning/stability than my other pairs and I could tell the difference. I was very happy with them as walking shoes. However, in my experience they seem to wear out within a month and a half-two months of regular use. I use them as all purpose shoes and walk for 30-60 minutes a day on concrete so maybe it's not how they were intended to be used but still I feel this is a little quick for a shoe to start wearing out. These shoes were supposedly made to run on rough terrain so I didn't really think that using them to walk in the suburbs would really take that much of a toll on them.  Not for serious hiking, This review is from: Columbia Men's Ravenous Trail Running Shoe (Apparel) I wanted to like these shoes. I got them cheap from SteepandCheap without trying them on first. They were true to size but felt like they pinched my heel. Turns out, they're meant to do that and that "pinch" wasn't actually uncomfortable; it helps stability on trails. Cool. As I wear them around on concrete, I will remark that they really are very comfortable.So what's the problem? These shoes are not meant for serious hiking for two major reasons. 1. They don't have a shank protecting your forefoot from rock bruising. The balls of my feet were bruised and sore after a hike up Yosemite Falls. I've done it in other shoes (Vasques) and that wasn't a problem. The lack of protection ensures I will not buy these again. (In my experience, real hiking/trail running shoes have a nylon/polyurethane sheath that goes alone the sole of the shoe to protect your feet). 2. They wear out fast.
